Pet Friendly Apartments Tips
Dogs give humans the loyalty and company that is usually only found in other humans. It is important, then, that you learn everything you can about taking care of your pet and making sure he lives a happy life. The piece below is an ideal starting point.
It costs a lot to own a dog. Expect to spend from $700 to as high as $1000 in a year to pay for medical attention, food and other items needed. Pet health insurance can help; although you will pay a monthly or yearly fee, you will often be covered if a big medical emergency occurs for your pet.
While you can hug your dog, you should avoid kissing your dog. Dog kisses are cute, in theory, but understand a dog’s mouth is typically very dirty. Dogs tend to dig through garbage cans, drink out of toilets and explore the hind quarters of other animals. It’s an old wives’ tale that a dog has a very clean mouth. It’s not true.

Always, have your dog spayed or neutered. Research has proven that this can reduce your dog’s risk of cancer and make them healthier in general. Spayed and neutered dogs wander less often as well, so this reduces likelihood of your dog getting hit on the road or lost.
Don’t take your dog out of your pet friendly apartment without a leash, no matter how well-behaved he is. A dog might run after an animal and get into trouble, or it might get into a fight with another animal. You are responsible if your dog does this.
Purchase a dog that can keep up with your lifestyle. If you love to run, seek out a pooch that will love to run alongside you. However, if you’re someone who stays mainly at home then seek out a small dog that loves to be adorned with lots of love while lounging around the house. Keeping a mismatch out of play makes both of you happy.

Rawhide treats are better for your dog than real meat bones. Rawhide limits the danger when your dog is chewing. Rawhide has been proven to be healthy for your dog. It is excellent for its teeth too, so do not give in to the temptation to give your dog a real bone no matter how hard it begs.
You can always choose to foster a dog for a few weeks if you’re not sure about making the full commitment of dog ownership. Many abused and homeless animals are in shelters waiting for adoptions, but there is a lot of overcrowding and many resources are scarce. Fostering an animal will help animals and help you decide whether or not you would like to keep a dog of your own.

You might find a pure breed dog at the pound. Lots of dog owners take animals to the pound when they can’t care for them any longer. All you have to do is give your local shelter a call, and you can find out which breeds they have. You may save a poor dog’s life if you do this.
Dogs will commonly get cut when they’re walking because of the various debris on the ground. Small cuts can be treated by washing, flushing with hydrogen peroxide and bandaging. If the cut seems unusually deep, take your dog to see the veterinarian.
Get to your vet on a regular basis. Dogs need to go to the vet for a check-up, but also to check for heartworm and to ensure they have all their shots. With a puppy, you will need to visit your vet a little more often. If your dog appears to be ill or injured, you should make a trip to the vet immediately.

If you already own a dog and are getting another one, have the two meet before bringing the new one to your apartment. Dogs are quite social, but sometimes two particular dogs just are not compatible with each other. If you find one that gets along with your current one, you’ll save yourself a lifetime of headaches.
You must carefully think for a while before getting a dog. There is a lot that comes with dog ownership and one can quickly fall for the face of an adorable puppy. Consider everything beforehand so that you know whether or not you can confidently manage it all.
Monitor your dog’s diet and eating habits. Foods high in calories are fine for puppies who are growing. Adult dogs should not eat the same diet as it will cause them to gain weight, possibly resulting in health problems.
If you have a puppy, it’s a smart idea to socialize him with some more dogs soon. A good way to teach your pup to be social is to take him to be groomed or to the dog park.

If you are thinking about getting a dog, it is also wise to think about a training course for that dog. Your life will be a lot happier with your dog if he is properly trained and follows your commands. It is much easier to train puppies, but older dogs can be successfully trained too.
Think about where your dog will be sleeping before you bring him or her home. Never let your dog sleeps with you or inside the house if you want to keep it in a crate. Before letting your dog into your bed, you should be sure that you’re okay with this being a long-term sleeping arrangement.
There are many advantages to owning a dog, including companionship and unconditional love. Dog owners, current or future, would all do well to research and learn about what dogs really need. The above advice can be used for times to come.
